There are a few different type of weight bars to choose from. The EZ-curl bar is used mainly in the commercial gym. It is short and bent like the letter W. These are great for people who wish to perform curls and accessory movements.
The straight bar comes in 6ft and 7t length. The standard straight bars are used with standard weights and are versatile when it comes to exercise options.
The fixed weight bar is shorter than a normal bar. The weights are already connected to the bar so no fiddling with weights is needed. These are mainly used for assistance exercises.
EZ Curl Bar vs Straight Bar
There’s some debate as to which bar is better. Doing barbell curls with a straight bar will likely provide better bicep activation to some extent, while with the EZ curl bar, there’s little more angle in the movement and it works the biceps a bit less. That slight angle of the EZ curl bar will put your wrists, forearms and elbows in a more comfortable, natural and safe position, thus reducing the risk of common injuries that many people develop over time from curling with a straight bar. So which is better? Safety should always come first, and the EZ curl bar will reduce the risk of injury. On balance, the tiny bit of extra work on the biceps isn’t worth the risk of injury.
